After four years of creating content online, my process was pretty set. Wake up early, grab my coffee, sit down at my computer & spend two hours brain dumping ideas into content.
But in 2024 my entire process has evolved.
Three significant shifts have changed how I create content and allowed me to create more than ever before with an ease that I haven't felt since starting as a creator.
Remember when we all thought typing was the fastest way to get ideas out? Yeah, about that...
In the past, I'd sit down at my computer & try to brain dump everything straight into writing. But there's something limiting about typing out every single thought. You get caught up in the mechanics of writing rather than letting your ideas flow.
This year, I completely ditched the traditional 'sit down and type' brain dump. Instead, I switch on voice capture (either through ChatGPT or Tana) and just... talk.
It's faster, more natural & allows me to express so much more. When you're talking, you tend to ramble — and that rambling often leads to deeper insights that might never have made it onto the page.
This simple switch to voice-first has not only sped up my capture process significantly, but it's also helped me express ideas more fully. There's a freedom in talking through your thoughts that you just don't get when you're focused on typing every word.
The result? My initial capture process is not just faster - it's richer, deeper, and more authentic.
If you're looking for voice capture apps I highly recommend checking out Tana, Voicenotes or ideaShell.
The second major shift has been using AI to help me develop & deepen my ideas.
Once I have that initial voice capture, I take those thoughts to ChatGPT. But I'm not using it to write for me — I'm using it as a thinking partner to help me build out my ideas further. Here's how it works:
The Five Question Framework is a simple prompt I've been using for months now to unlock my ideas using AI. It's simple & should be a staple in your AI toolbox:
Ask me five questions about {topic}. Your goal is to discover any unique opinions, experiences or insights.
If you want more AI Prompts to help you uncover your ideas I created the AI Powered Note-Taking Playbook as a curated list of powerful prompts to help you unlock your ideas.
But here's the key - it's not about speed (though that's a nice bonus). It's about depth. Having a 24/7 partner to bounce ideas off has helped me produce better, more fully-formed ideas than ever before.
The third shift has been the most surprising — embracing AI as my personal ghostwriter.
This year, I developed a custom GPT called My Creative Copilot to act as my personal ghostwriter for all my content - articles, threads, social posts, newsletters, Slack team messages, you name it.
I approached it like I was hiring a ghostwriter, training it not just on my writing style, but on my thinking style, values, and quirks - everything that makes my content uniquely mine.
Here's how I use my Creative Co-Pilot:
This shift has freed up so much mental energy. All those cognitive tasks that used to take up headspace — crafting hooks, writing instructional sections, developing CTAs — can be handled by my AI ghostwriter while I focus on what matters: the ideas themselves.
And no, this isn't about AI "writing for me" (imagine saying that to someone who uses a human ghostwriter!) It's about me developing the ideas & directing the process, then using AI to help communicate those ideas effectively. I still come in at the end to polish everything off, but the heavy lifting is shared.
People worry that it makes content less "authentic" or less "yours." But what really makes something uniquely ours? Is it the exact arrangement of words? Or is it the original thinking, unique perspectives, and deep insights we bring to the table?
In the past, we've had no choice but to become excellent writers - because if we wanted people to see our ideas, we needed to know how to communicate them effectively. We've had to master hooks, storytelling, and persuasive writing just to get our ideas noticed.
But with AI, we're seeing an evolution in how we think about this. We can focus on being idea architects while letting AI handle the heavy lifting take care of the craft of writing.
These three shifts have transformed how I create content. But it's been more than a revolution, it's been an evolution.
For the first time in my creator journey, I'm getting ideas out into the world that might never have made it before. Ideas that felt too complex or time-consuming to develop. Now they flow with an ease I haven't experienced since I first started creating.
I've gone from being the person who does all the work to being the director of my creative process — with powerful tools that amplify my ability to share ideas.
And isn't that what creating content is really about? Getting valuable ideas out of our heads & into the world where they can help others.
